Textile Traces at the Benaki Museum: Reading Ancient Textiles through Objects, Materials and Absence
Workshop with Dr Stella Spantidaki & Lia Andreakou
Saturday, 24 October, 11:45 - 13:15
This workshop invites participants to read the Benaki Museum’s ancient collection through textile traces. Although ancient textiles are rarely preserved, their presence can be approached through tools, mineralised remains, images, ornaments, patterns and material analogies. A guided route through selected exhibits is followed by a hands-on encounter with fibres, threads, tools and samples, connecting archaeological evidence with textile processes, technical knowledge and embodied understanding.
