Workshop with Ismini Samanidou

This workshop explores the motifs and patterns of traditional Greek textiles, particularly those of Sarakatsani, a nomadic tribe from northern Greece. We will delve into their origins and how they were used to tell stories and protect the wearers, their families, and their homes.
Following this exploration, we will reinterpret the patterns and create a new narrative. Traditional motifs, pre-printed in various sizes on transparent film, will be used as stencils for cyanotype printing on paper and/or textiles. In addition to the transparent film, other materials will be available to enhance the narrative, including lace, historical fragments, and plants with protective properties. Each participant will take home an individually designed cloth measuring approximately 45 x 45 cm, which can be further crafted in a variety of ways.
