Tour though Linseedmill - Sun, 20 July, 4:30 - 5:30 pm (registration required)

The OIL MILL of Haslach is a traditional mill, where valuable linseed oil is pressed from linseed, and where other high quality edible oils are produced. Next to the production plant in the picturesque ambience of the old mill there is also an exhibition of historical equipment that can be visited as part of a tour. The linseed oil’s full taste, therapeutic effect and even healing properties have been known in the region since the Middle Ages. Today we know that the positive effects of this oil are due to its high content of vitamins and unsaturated fatty acids. Culinary delicacies made with linseed oil are linseed oil potatoes – typical for the Mühlviertel, spreads with linseed oil, potato noodles and much more.
The “Urbarium of Haslach of 1379” mentions it as one of three mills. The conditions for extracting oil are ideal in the Upper Mühlviertel: experience of many hundred years, soft water, finest seeds. After the process had been forgotten for a long time, the Koblmiller family, who has owned the mill for 200 year, helped to restage the regional product. Old equipment for oil pressing was brought from a museum mill and set to work again. The place where deliciously smelling oil drips from the press is a feast for all senses.
