VOYAGE - International miniature textile art exhibition

The exhibition at the Craft Museum of Finland showcases miniature textile artworks that utilize both traditional and experimental methods and techniques in textile art.

The exhibition is a journey to the art of various countries and cultures. Artists and artworks were selected through an open international call. 49 artists from 25 countries were chosen for the exhibition. Voyage is a concept that is simultaneously abstract, relating to life and time, and concrete.

Miniature textile exhibitions are a traditional and well-known format in textile art. Their purpose is to enhance international interaction in a predominantly female and marginalized field. Exhibitions can also be seen as expressions and statements within the textile art field. Art in a small scale offers a counterbalance to monumental thinking from its own perspective. The small size of the works lowers the barrier to engage in international collaboration and brings the artworks closer to the viewer.

The exhibition is organized by the Finnish Association of New Textile Art (UUTE ry) in collaboration with the Craft Museum of Finland. Voyage exhibition marks the beginning of an international triennial series held every three years. Miniature textile art exhibitions are organized internationally all around the world, and now Finland is also part of this tradition.

UUTE ry

The Finnish Association of New Textile Art (UUTE ry) is a national and internationally operating association, founded and registered in Helsinki in December 2014. Since January 2015, it has been a member of the European Textile Network, and since 2021, a member organization of the Union of Finnish Art Associations. The purpose of the association is to develop textile art as a free art form.

Membership in UUTE ry is open to professional textile artists who use textiles as a concrete or conceptual starting point in their works, considered within the field of visual arts.

The exhibition is supported by the Arts Promotion Centre Finland.
