The international exhibiting group PRISM brings together a diverse group of selected textiles artists showcasing high-quality fine art textile practice and craftsmanship from around the world. Exhibiting as a group since 1998, it currently has over 70 artists participating within PRISM, working together to challenge the common misconceptions surrounding textiles as an art form.

PRISM Textiles Group now returns to the Art Pavilion in Mile End with their latest exhibition, Untold, from 6 to 18 April.
Natalie Melton, Creative Director at the Crafts Council, will be the guest speaker at the private view on Wednesday 6 April at 7pm – your invitation is attached.

With more than 50 artists taking part, the work on show covers a wide range of themes, from dementia and osteoporosis to folklore and family history. Alongside the more usual fabric and thread are found objects and unusual materials, such as tree trunks, straw, feathers, and bones, skilfully intertwined to create contemporary pieces of textile art.

PRISM members will also be offering free workshops throughout the exhibition to encourage visitors and get the local community involved. They will be sharing insights into how their pieces have been created, while teaching skills from latch hook to stitch. Katharine Paton-King, Chair of PRISM, said: “We are delighted to be returning to the Art Pavilion in Mile End. It’s a beautiful space in which to showcase the diverse, high-quality textile-inspired work by our members around the theme of Untold. We are very lucky to have such a high standard of work to choose from within the group, along with a host of interesting interpretations of our theme. And we hope that our free workshops will encourage visitors to discover the delights of working with textiles themselves.”

Visitors who came to the previous PRISM exhibition held here last October left comments such as “A fabulous exhibition, highly recommended and a great venue too” and “I came to visit yesterday and left feeling totally inspired”.

Untold runs at the Art Pavilion, Mile End Park, Clinton Road, London E3 4QY, from 6 to 18 April, open 11am-6pm daily. The exhibition is supported by Tower Hamlets Council.
