Selvedges, leftover yarns, fiber fluff, fabric scraps, used clothing, felt remnants, ends of ropes, hoses, straps, and much more! What a treasure trove of extraordinary materials, striking colors, stimulating forms, and tactile surfaces! What is simply waste to many can inspire others!
The exhibition “Twist. Art from Waste!” presents, across the eight floors of Haslach’s church tower, a range of free and experimental works that make use of various textile waste materials to create unique forms of expression and artistic statements. Whether quilts made from old garments, tapestries created from discarded stuffed animals, garment objects made from shredded fabrics, or oversized braids, weavings, and felt objects—the possibilities are limitless.
Alongside works by invited artists, the exhibition is brought to life primarily through contributions by students from the University of Art and Design Linz and other educational institutions. Their works offer a young and fresh perspective on the subject, revealing new potential and meanings in resources that often appear useless.
