TEXIMUS 4
23.03.2023 - 26.03.2023
Altstadthalle, Zug, DE

The visual appearance of the exhibition is based on Elsa Montell’s raanu Bear’s Hibernation and original typography, hand-carved by Matti Saanio. Graphic material is designed by Venla Valmu 2022.

Textile art is increasingly present in museums and galleries. Experts and the public alike recognize with amazement that textile works made decades ago are still deeply moving and have timeless validity. Female artists who worked with textile themes at the time are being rediscovered. At the same time, little is known about the current textile art world in Switzerland. The only thing that helps is to exhibit these works!

Textile Art Forum Schweiz has been organizing the TEXIMUS exhibition every three years since 2013. The presentation of exclusively contemporary textile art is unique in Switzerland and ties in with the legendary textile biennials that took place in Lausanne from 1962 to 1995. The fourth TEXIMUS exhibition will follow in March 2023.

TEXIMUS 4 differs from its predecessors in a few points: For the first time, extensive works can be seen in this edition. Nevertheless, it presents a much larger number of works than the first three TEXIMUS exhibitions, namely 55 works by 49 artists. Another new idea is to show two installations in public space and thus draw attention to TEXIMUS.

What is special about textile art? Is it the sensuality, flexibility, and softness of the material? Is it the extraordinary variety of techniques? Is it something special in the personal memories that immediately surface in every person when looking at textile works? Each TEXIMUS shows how contemporary artists connect textiles with the immediate present.
