The Leinenweberei Hoffmann is the last mechanical weaving mill in East Germany and is one of the very few German linen weaving mills still in operation. Their diverse types of fabrics and products are unique!

Highly qualified and skilled employees produce with the highest quality for well-known national brands and have led the company through difficult times in local textile production for many years.

Together with Managing Director Reinhard Ruta, they preserve a unique traditional craft and thus safeguard an important piece of industrial culture and a resource for the future.

 

Unfortunately, the recent difficulties of our time have not left the Leinenweberei Hoffmann unscathed. Corona, war and procurement problems are putting increasing pressure on the Hoffmann linen weaving mill. The world market situation for linen yarns has changed dramatically. Prices and delivery times have increased drastically, while at the same time availability has been reduced.

"Nowadays you have to buy yarns independently of orders as soon as they are available in the quality you are looking for," explains Mr Ruta. This requires a completely different inventory management and, of course, corresponding pre-financing funds.

 

In addition, there are many new demands that today's world places on local producers. New product ideas, sustainability issues, contemporary marketing and new distribution channels, to name just a few challenges.

"Our human resources are limited. Things fall behind every day for which time and staff are needed. We have excellent production experts. But what we lack is suitable young talent. Younger people who are interested in preserving our craft and who are familiar with today's marketing issues and digital processes. I am open to all ideas that will ensure the continued existence of linen weaving in Lusatia," says Mr Ruta.
