Under the title “Stickstoff”, two artists living in southwest Germany, Isabelle Wiessler and Monika Sebert, present their works together at the Museum Tuchfabrik of the Nature Park Centre in Esch-sur-Sûre, Luxembourg.
Finding ways of expressing themselves with textile materials and turning them into emotional experiences in line, colour and form is what unites the two artists in their work. While Isabelle Wiessler focuses more on colour and light in her reworked paintings, Monika Sebert's works contrast with graphic abstractions and monochrome reduction. The sewn lines create detailed surfaces, are painting, drawing and form at the same time.

With all the differences in the respective artistic handwriting, the use of the sewing needle as a drawing tool turns the self-chosen theme into a field for experimentation. In series of small works that function like a question and answer game, they further explore the concept of ‘embroidery’. Embroidery, freed from the process of attachment or pattern formation, can be moved freely with needle and thread on new textile and non-textile ‘embroidery fabrics’. In addition to the small series created for the project, there are many exciting wall pieces in various formats on display, as well as numerous biomorphic-looking textile objects that are also freely machine-embroidered.
