On April 1, 2023, an exhibition of paper art has been opened at the Brwinów Palace of Culture, presenting the works of prof. Ewa Latkowska-Żychska.

The exhibition presents large-format works, which are rare in the field of paper art, as well as collections of Japanese papers in which the artist specializes. The last of the mentioned collections will also be enriched with book art objects.

The exhibition is open until May 5, 2023.

Curator of the exhibition: Anna Żaczek-Siwczuk
Author of the visual identification of the exhibition: Anna Żaczek-Siwczuk

In Ewa Latkowska-Żychska's latest presentations, attention is drawn to large-format works inspired by the musical fabric - compositions by Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, which emphasize the motif of the road, which has recently been important for the artist's work. Of course, this motif has always been important to her, but the size of the new works, the repetition of the components that make up the structure, the expressive rhythm of plant fragments woven into the matter and building the texture cause that when "reading" these works, we experience the element of duration, course, temporality more strongly than before, with which they are saturated.

Blue and red, masculine and feminine, water and fire, discipline and spontaneity, the elements of intellect and love - these values in the works of Ewa Latkowska-Żychska fight with each other and at the same time intertwine in a constant process. We can say that thus the artistic gesture takes on an almost magical dimension. Thanks to this, the range of sensations and reflections in this work extends from what is material and bodily to what is spiritual and metaphysical.

[from the introduction to the exhibition catalogue]

Ewa Latkowska-Żychska - fabric and paper artist. For the first years of her work, she was looking for new weaving structures in her works, which were the interpretation of her photographs. However, since 2000, the artist has changed her workshop and form of expression, looking for individual techniques of drawing paper and specializing in Japanese paper. He creates large painting compositions using his own technique. These large-format activities are mainly inspired by reflections on the landscape and its rhythmic structure. The collection of smaller-format works consists of handmade papers using the Japanese technique, generating more personal reflections. It is a format closer to our body, often bound by the form of books, close to portraits and feelings. The Japanese technique is used here in an original way and the washi paper is created simultaneously with the painting.
