The Textile Society offers an annual award to professional practitioners within their chosen textile discipline, whether art, craft, design, curatorial, scientific or any other textile related field. The Professional Development Award of up to £2,000 aims to support research, further development or realisation of an existing project. Evidence of well established practice is a prerequisite for applications.

The Awards are intended for professionals working within a recognised field of textiles, including PhD candidates - but only in the later stages of their research.

The award is granted by a panel of experienced judges on the strength of the applicant meeting the professional criteria within their discipline.

BA and MA students are not eligible for these awards but are invited to submit applications for Student Bursaries. The Society welcomes international applicants and embraces diversity.  Candidates are required to be institutional or individual members of the Textile Society. Please note: New members are advised to allow between three to eight working days for their subscription to be processed and for their membership to be activated. Closing date for submission is September 1st 2024

The Society is looking for innovative projects that are viable and have vision whatever the nature of the individual discipline. The Textile Society is a charity and its awards and bursaries are a key feature of the organisation. The dissemination and sharing of the project’s outcome is encouraged – either through the annual publication, Text magazine, or with a presentation at the Annual Textile Society Conference.

Applicants are encouraged to visit the website; https://textilesociety.org.uk/awards and to carefully study the application guidelines and requirements. Judging is carried out purely on the basis of the application and supporting visuals, that is with no face to face interview, so clear communication of intent, thoughtful costings and strong  supporting images are essential.
