The ACT (Asociación para la Creación Textil) invites national and international artists/ artisans to submit projects which explore the concepts of TRANSFORMATIONS, the theme chosen for this first edition of TextilFest which will take place between the 19th September and 26th October in Igualada (Barcelona). The works selected will be exhibited in the Museu de la Pell Cal Boyer. The call will be open until 1 April 2025.
The Association understands textile to lie within a wide and all-embracing framework and which works can approach from different perspectives, be they material, technical or conceptual. This opens the door to all kinds of materials and means, including audiovisual formats, performances, etc. ...To facilitate the job of the members of the international jury, which will be made up of people of recognized prestige in the field of contemporary textile creation, on this occasion works of a functional nature are excluded and we focus on the artistic intention. The term Transformations is synonymous of change, evolution, metamorphosis, transmutation, variation, transition, modification. Transformations occur in different areas; not only in society, politics, nature or the environment, but also in physics, biology, mathematics or music.
Zygmunt Bauman defined this present moment in history as a fluid society since the solid realities of our forebears have disappeared. We are living in an era of permanent change, of continual transformations, often taking place at great speed. New materials, artificial intelligence, social movements are emerging which lead us to question our convictions... We are living in a state of constant transformation.
The main venue of TextilFest will be the Cal Boyer Leather Museum in Igualada, a city located 60 km from Barcelona, historically a cluster of textile factories (knitting) and leather tanning. Among the planned activities there are several exhibitions, a handmade fashion show, a series of workshops given by prestigious international specialists such as Jun Tomita, Isabel Berglund, Marjolein Dallinga, Jette Clover and Tim Johnson among others.
As one of the most significant events during TextilFest, Transformations will open at the Cal Boyer Leather Museum in Igualada on Thursday 18 September and will be open until Sunday 26 October. The call is open to people from all countries and all artistic manifestations are acceptable as long as they are related to the theme of the call and to textiles. The applications received will be selected by an international jury made up of renowned experts.
