Identifying, Showcasing & Supporting the Next Generation of Sustainable Textile Materials

The IMASUS project invites innovative textile companies, designers, researchers, and material pioneers to contribute to a mapping of sustainable and innovative materials. If you developed or are working on a material that challenges the current systems of textile and fashion production this open call is for you.

The goal is to understand, document, and support the materials shaping the future of sustainable fashion. Through this open call, IMASUS aims to expand their accessible, science-backed and industry-ready material knowledge base that connects academia, innovators, makers, designers and the textile industry.

The open call is addressed to:

  • Designers & Creative Practitioners: Exploring material innovation at any stage, from idea to prototype to commercialization. Working with experimental textiles, circular design, biofabrication, craft research, hybrid materials, or artistic material development.
  • Research Labs, Institutes & Universities: Involved in materials science, textile engineering, chemistry, biotechnology, or applied research in sustainability.
  • Companies & Startups: Especially those developing biomaterials, recycled textiles, new fibres, bio-based composites, waste-to-material innovations, or novel sustainable processes.

To participate please fill out the form to include your material in our database. The form also includes a section on Challenges You Are Facing, where you can briefly describe any barriers related to the development, production, or application of your material.

Optional Physical Sample: You may also send a physical sample (minimum 10 × 10 cm) to be analysed and added to the IMASUS physical material library.

By participating, you will benefit from:

  • Inclusion in the IMASUS Open Material Directory & App to gain visibility for your material.
  • Scientific micro-analysis (5 SEM images): CSIC/INMA researchers will produce Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) micrographs of your material, offering you unique insights into its structure and properties.
  • Presence in the IMASUS Physical Material Library (if you send your sample): Hosted by project partners and accessible to students, researchers, designers, and professionals.
  • Access to a growing European community of creative hubs, educational institutions, material innovators, sustainable brands, and research centres.
  • Participation in workshops, pilots, and future collaborations: Including Imagineering workshops, educational modules, and industry-lab matchmaking.

This call closes on February 28th 2026. The form to submit your material is available here.
