TxT – the Association of Textile Artists of Slovakia invites artists to participate in the 24th edition of the international competitive exhibition of textile miniatures under the theme EMPATHY.
Empathy is an apparently natural human feeling – the ability to perceive another person in our surroundings and to enter into their experience of joyful as well as complex, even tragic, situations.
Empathy is not a given.
It does not arise automatically simply because we share the same space or follow the same news. It is a fragile state of attentiveness – the ability to momentarily withdraw from one’s own world and allow oneself to be affected by the experience of another. Without the need to judge, correct, or seek solutions.
At a time when suffering becomes a distant image and reality is reduced to rapid information, empathy slows us down. It compels us to stay. With a gaze, with a gesture, with silence. It is neither loud nor spectacular. It is inconspicuous, and precisely for that reason vulnerable. It requires the courage to remain open even where it would be easier to look away.
SCHEDULE:
February 28, 2026 - deadline for applications with photographic documentation along with a short accompanying text to be displayed with the artwork.
March 31, 2026 - announcement of jury selection results
By April 30, 2026 - sending artworks by post
May 10 and 11, 2026 - personal hand-over of artworks; time and place will be specified to selected artists
The venue for the EMPATIA exhibition will be Galéria Umelka, Dostojevského rad 2, 811 09 Bratislava
May 11-13, 2026 - installation
The exact date of the opening ceremony will be announced in due course
June 7, 2026 - exhibition finissage
Selected participants, chosen by the international expert jury, are required to pay a participation fee should they accept the invitation to exhibit in EMPATIA.
The fee amounts are as follow*:
Professional Artist:
- TxT Member 30 Eur
- SK & CZ Citizen 45 Eur
- EU Citizen 65 Eur
- Non EU Citizen 70 Eur
Student:
- SK & CZ Citizen 20 EUR
- EU Citizen 30 Eur
- Non EU Citizen 45 Eur
*fees including return of the work
