The 30th MINIARTEXTIL will take place in Como between April 27 and July 18, 2021, a historic event in the field of contemporary fibre art that has been postponed for a year due to the pandemic.
The Pinacoteca civica (civil art gallery) and the Padiglione ex Grossisti del Mercato (former wholesale pavilion) host works by international masters, up-coming young artists and large site-specific installations.
The heart of the project is the Pinacoteca civica, in which 54 mini-textiles are exhibited, delicate, ironic, fragile and powerful works that were selected for this edition by a jury chaired by Mimmo Totaro.
The mini textiles are a counterpoint to a retrospective exhibition organized by the ARTE & ARTE association and curated by Giovanni Berera. Masterpieces from the Pinacoteca civica are in a dialogue with works by 18 international artists selected from those who have participated in one of the Miniartextil editions in the past few decades.
Among others, the following artists are represented: Magadalena Abakanowicz, who is dedicated to a homage from a selection of works by the Toms Pauli Foundation in Lausanne, Jeane Lurcat, one of the masters of European fibre art, from whom two tapestries from the Musées d'Angers are exhibited, or the African artists Joel Andrianomearisoa and El Anatsui, famous representatives at the Venice Biennale.
For the first time, the annual exhibition of contemporary fibre art, which is so important for Como, is located in the Pinacoteca. A selection is not random, but the result of careful research. The constant juxtapositions and cross-references between ancient and contemporary works reinforce the meaning they both have and offer new interpretations of an urban heritage that is an inexhaustible source of content and inspiration.
