Artist Megan Sharkey presents new works that explore the complex relationship between people and time. Through textile works made especially for the exhibition, visitors are invited to pause and reflect on the nature of time they carry within them, to feel its texture and contemplate its unpredictability.
Born in Wales and currently based in Porto, Sharkey uses textile materials through a variety of handicraft techniques including basketry, embroidery, painting and weaving. In her artistic practice, she mainly uses needle and thread to transform intangible ideas into physical and concrete creations. Through slow and repetitive sewing and lace-making, she conceives abstract forms in two and three dimensions, fusing simplicity with complexity.
TEMPO includes works developed using a traditional needle lace/net technique, adapted and developed by the artist throughout her creative process. The choice of a reduced colour palette highlights the interplay between light, shadow and surface, while the midnight blue that permeates the works acts as a visual metaphor for the vast and infinite qualities of time and the cosmos.
