Mazandaran kilims

The fabrics from the province of Mazandaran in today's Iran, between the Caspian Sea and the Elburs Mountains, are known for their variety of stripes and combinations. But only in a remote location in this mountain region were there textiles that can combine light and shadow with abstract means. These mostly large kilims, woven in lengths, were created around 1900 and all seem to be unused. The residents of the area can no longer make any statements about their function or the fine technology with shimmering transitions. For the first time, the Historical and Ethnological Museum is showing a few of these rare pieces in a special exhibition from a Swiss private collection: https://www.wernerweber.com/index.php/undiscovered-minimalism
