Georgina Maxim reforms pre-worn items of clothing into textile sculptures and describes the work as an act of memory, transcribing the lived moments and stories evoked by the clothing.
Maxim has worked as both artist and curator for over a decade. She co-founded Village Unhu in Harare in 2012 to provide studio spaces, exhibitions, workshops and residency programmes for artists. In 2018, she was nominated for the Henrike Grohs Award, Goethe Institute, Abidjan. Her work has been exhibited in Zimbabwe and internationally. While undertaking a Master’s degree at the University of Bayreuth in 2019 she also presented an installation for the Zimbabwean pavilion at the 58th Venice Biennale.
