Gabriele Schuller und Birgit Wagner DE:GROWTH

24.04. - 31.05.2025
Birgit Wagner and Gabrieler Schuller are united by the desire to counter the omnipresent dominance of hypercapitalism. They do this by learning regional textile production methods and trying out manual production processes for textiles. Last year, they focussed intensively on the topics of flax cultivation and wool harvesting and are now tackling the fundamental questions: How fast is growth actually, and how slow are pauses in growth?
The artists often work with materials whose history they know, whether they are remnants of labour processes, devalued dumping treasures or raw materials degraded to hazardous waste.
They show their artistic harvest in an exhibition at Galerie 20gerhaus in Ried.
Birgit Wagner studied costume and stage design at the AdBK Munich and textile art design at the UfG Linz. In her artistic practice, she works primarily with textiles. She creates objects using techniques such as sewing, weaving or carving foam. The production process often becomes a performance. The master tailor lives in Munich, where she runs the textile workshop at the AdBK.
Gabriele Schuller studied textile technology at the HTBLVA Spengergasse in Vienna and graphic design at the New Design University St.Pölten. She lives and works as a KUNSTNOMADIN in Linz and on the road. Cyclical life processes and coexistence with the more-than-human living beings are the themes she explores in her artistic work. Her creative processes are multifaceted and her work ranges from installations and paintings to mostly textile objects.
On Saturdays, the artists are in the gallery and it is possible to take part in an introduction to spinning with the hand spindle.
