Interdisciplinary textile practices between crafts, technology and social participation in Vienna

The planned symposium FeTe – experimental laboratory for threads, forms & knowledge is understood as an interdisciplinary platform bringing textile craft traditions, digital design processes, sustainable practices and cultural educational work together.

The central question is how textile cultures in Vienna today is lived, passed on and further developed in a future-oriented manner. This approach is based on the assumption that textile practices, not only material ones, but also social, cultural and technological forms of knowledge play a central role in the urban Everyday life.

FeTe takes the 25th anniversary of the textile designer Veronika Persche, working in Vienna as an opportunity to establish a recurring, cross-institutional format that interweaves craft, artistic, and pedagogical approaches within an urban context.
Through workshops, hands-on stations, lectures, and discussion rounds, people from diverse backgrounds and life realities are brought together to experience textile techniques as a shared cultural language.
In the long term, FeTe sees itself as the seedbed of an urban textile lab that connects research, education, and everyday culture.
Through the regular repetition of the symposium, topics can be explored in greater depth, new collaborations can be developed, and insights into sustainable, inclusive urban cultural work can be generated.
Vienna provides the ideal ground for this: a dense network of cultural institutions, a growing international textile community, and a political climate that fosters sustainable participation.
