CONNECTING THREADS. Textile production and teh work on their pictures.
The Disappearance of Leipzig’s Textile and Clothing Industry after 1990 is a narrative of the loss of women's employment. Christiane Eisler’s photographs from LUXUS ARBEIT (1990–1992) document the fleeting moment of hope that quickly faded away. This visibility of a (mostly) female phase of work and life under conditions of transformation is also a concern shared by Ramona Schacht in her series PICTURES AS A PROMISE (p.a.a.p). Most recently exhibited in Potsdam, her work addresses the assignment of female textile labor through photography while also opening a window into contemporary work experiences.
Johanna Rogalla explores similar themes in her work, focusing on the mechanized experiences of textile production. She derives delicate and fragile moments from one of the most labor-intensive industries, shedding light on the tensions within this transformation.
