A fascinating interplay of shapes and colors

Museum Tuch + Technik shows the exhibition „Color Improvisations 3“

With their expressive colors, geometric shapes and large forms, they are reminiscent of the abstract paintings of modernism. However, the artistically designed exhibits are not made of paint and canvas, but of fabrics. Fabrics that have been painstakingly put together and quilted with an eye for successful compositions and a great love of detail. The Museum Tuch + Technik in Neumünster is showing 42 of these "art quilts" by 38 artists in the international exhibition "Color Improvisations 3" from 16 March to 22 September 2024. This is the first time the quilts have ever been on public display.

Measuring approximately two by two meters, the works provide an impressive insight into contemporary quilt art in the USA, Canada and New Zealand. Modern artists use the old technique of joining and fixing several layers of fabric with accentuating quilting seams. In their choice of motifs, however, they have freed themselves from traditional rules and patterns. Their works are improvisations of shapes and colors, always new and always fascinating.

The exhibition was curated by Nancy Crow, who is also exhibiting one of her latest works in Neumünster. The American quilt icon from Ohio invested almost four years in selecting the exhibits. "For me, this process is like conducting an orchestra and getting the tones and sounds just right. I have tried to make the best possible selection so that all who view it can be swept away by the powerful and colorful unfolding performance." Nancy Crow has been teaching quilting for more than 25 years, is known through numerous exhibitions in the USA and Europe, workshops and books and has influenced many quilters with her style.

Among others the exhibition is sponsored by McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Neumünster, the Förderverein Museum Tuch + Technik e.V. and the Verein zur Förderung der Kunst in Neumünster e.V.
