WHAT IS THE TEXTILE BIENNALE?

Formerly known as the Festival International des Textiles Extra ordinaires (FITE), the Textile Biennale is reinvented at each edition by partnering with a new international partner, before traveling to the country of this partner. Only biennial in the world based on this principle. Every two years, artists from five continents explore a renewed topical theme together, inviting the textile collections of the Roger-Quilliot Art Museum, Clermont Auvergne Métropole and the collections of the new partner.
The objectives of the Biennale are to change the world, to create an experience to change our perception of humans, and to contribute to an ecological, economic and social dynamic through the action of artists.

« The 2026_27 edition of the Textile Biennale of Clermont-Ferrand intends to explore this beauty of the world, in all the corners where we do not think to find it. It intends to open to other sensibilities and other aesthetics. She intends to invite the spectators to see, in the words of Arthur Rimbaud, what sometimes the man thought he saw. In a world that, more than ever, exacerbates nationalisms and withdrawal into ourselves, it seemed to us that the only way to build this all-world that Edward Glissant dreamed of, is to combine the word beauty in the plural of all languages and sensibilities. And the textile seems the most appropriate dictionary to offer a beauty rid of any concept. Textiles do not think of itself, it is weaved with fibers and patterns from all over the world. He introduces us to this beauty of the world of which the Emperor Hadrian wanted to make himself the guardian as Marguerite Yourcenar told us. » Simon Njami (President HS_Project)
