Call for Participation: Naturales Quaestiones
Casermarcheologica, Sansepolcro, IT
Deadline: 10.02.2025
SCD Studio Association is launching a call for the selection of 5 works for NATURALES QUAESTIONES. Chapter 2. HYBRIDIZATION, a contemporary art exhibition to be held at CasermArcheologica in Sansepolcro from March to September 2025.
DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 10, 2025
NATURALES QUAESTIONES draws inspiration from the eponymous treatise by Seneca, structured into seven books dedicated to the analysis of natural phenomena such as fires and mirrors, lightning and thunder, terrestrial waters, atmospheric phenomena, winds, earthquakes, and comets. This text represents not only a philosophical and scientific exploration of natural phenomena but also a call to critically reflect on the indiscriminate exploitation and commodification of natural resources. At the same time, Seneca celebrates scientific progress as a means of elevating human consciousness towards a divine dimension.
The NATURALES QUAESTIONES contemporary art project adopts the principles and structure of this classic, dividing its framework into seven chapters, each interpreted through an exhibition event that bridges nature and culture from a multidisciplinary and contemporary perspective. The project aims to foster a profound reflection on the balance between humanity and the environment, promoting an alliance between scientific, technological, social progress, artistic research, and environmental sustainability.
THEMATIC FOCUS
The key word and theme for this second chapter of NATURALES QUAESTIONES is HYBRIDIZATION. The accepted forms and mediums include: installation, fiber art, photography, video art, performance, participatory and/or relational art, and sculpture.
Hybridization, as a creative principle, represents a process of fusion and convergence between distinct elements, generating new perspectives, stimulating novel reflections, and opening unexplored horizons. It is not merely a combination of forms but a profound transformation that transcends disciplinary and conceptual barriers, making space for emerging visions capable of addressing the urgent challenges of our time. This phenomenon, rooted in contamination and interdisciplinarity, serves as a powerful tool to explore and reinterpret the complex dynamics of our world, prompting inquiry into our collective future and the responsibilities it entails.
The project aims to delve into the multifaceted dimensions of hybridization through art, inviting artists to explore and reinterpret new balances and possibilities. In a world marked by rapid changes, ecological challenges, and social crises, art becomes a privileged space for reflection, capable of posing critical questions and suggesting innovative paths. The goal is to open a reflective space that fosters alternative visions for a more sustainable future, rethinking our coexistence with the planet, other species, and the living and non-living.
In this context, hybridization is not only a combination of techniques and materials but a practice that invites us to question our certainties, reconsider our actions, and acquire a renewed awareness of our personal responsibility towards the world. The exhibited works will not only challenge the audience on global issues but also inspire intimate and personal reflections, encouraging awareness that transcends the collective plane. They provoke thought on individual commitment, inviting each visitor to consider what unexplored paths and actions they can take to contribute to a different future, even in their everyday lives.
EXHIBITION VENUE
CasermArcheologica was born from the restoration of Palazzo Muglioni, an imposing Renaissance building located in the heart of Sansepolcro. With a rich history intertwining culture, architecture, and memory, it has, over the past decade, become a hybrid model that merges the historical legacy of the site with innovative social and cultural projects, fostering continuous dialogue between art, education, and local communities.
As part of national networks for urban regeneration, the association integrates multiple dimensions of education and culture, creating a permanent laboratory of inclusive and sustainable planning. Supported by entities such as the Fondazione CR Firenze, it continues to grow progressively, room by room, goal by goal, in dialogue with the surrounding territory. The visible stratifications in the building’s walls have become a metaphor for the project itself, aiming to generate a lasting cultural legacy and inspire new practices of heritage and human capital enhancement.
ORGANIZING BODY
The NATURALES QUAESTIONES project is conceived and promoted by SCD Studio, an Italian association based in Perugia dedicated to the dissemination, experimentation, and promotion of contemporary art, with a particular focus on fiber art. With a commitment to fostering exchange and connections with other entities, the association has developed projects across Italy, organized European-wide contests for museums and institutions, and published catalogs of its events.
Its continuous research has led to dozens of events, including exhibitions, festivals, book presentations, docu-film screenings, studio visits, and relational art interventions. SCD Studio continues its mission to build bridges of knowledge and relationships that transcend space and time, crossing countries, cultures, and generations, exploring territories and ancient traditions while reinterpreting them through a contemporary lens.
