Open Call for International Tapestry Design Award

We are pleased to invite you to participate in the competition for the conceptual design of the tapestry organized by the Tapestry Production Institution „Atelje 61″ from Petrovaradin, Novi Sad, Serbia. The competition is of an international character and aims to preserve, develop and popularize the tapestry as an authentic and autonomous artistic medium.
Atelje 61“ will award two purchase awards for the conceptual design of the tapestry – one for the classic, traditional tapestry and one for the modern expression in tapestry. The amount of one award is 1000€. According to the cartoons of the awarded authors, tapestries will be made in the workshop of „Atelje 61“ using weaving techniques on the vertical loom and materials proposed by the author. The finished tapestries remain part of the national collection and the collection of „Atelje 61“.
The conditions for participation are specified by the propositions defined by the Artistic Council of „Atelje 61“. We ask all participants to adapt their thoughts to the visual language of the classic woven tapestry. Authors who do not have previous experience with this artistic medium can get all the necessary information in „Atelje 61“.

PROPOSITIONS
- Duration of the competition: April 10 to May 15, 2024 Any applications that arrive after the specified deadline will not be considered.
- Artists of fine and applied arts can participate in the competition.
- Participants in the competition propose color sketches for the tapestry, which can be performed by all techniques and in combinations of different techniques.
- The number of sketches is limited to 5.
- Dimensions of sketches and projects sent by mail or brought in person: not smaller than 0.50 x 0.70 m, and not bigger than 0.70 x 1.00 m.
- Drawings to be sent by e-mail: JPEG, TIFF, resolution 300 dpi; dimensions ≈ 20 x 20 cm.
- The final dimension of the tapestry must be attached to the sketch: (up to ≈ 5 m², maximum height up to ≈ 2.5 m).
- In the case of a proposal for a spatial tapestry, simple assembly and disassembly must be taken into account.
- Sketches or USB with photos can be sent by mail or brought in person to the address „Atelje 61“, Petrovaradinska tvrđava 9, Serbia; or sent by e-mail to (atelje61konkurs@gmail.com).
Members of the artistic council of „Atelje 61“ will select two sketches, according to which the awarded authors will make tapestry cartoons no later than June 30, 2024. The money will be given to the authors after the delivery of the cartoon.
