Within the framework of ART CITY Bologna 2024 and on the occasion of Arte Fiera, the Raccolta Lercaro inaugurates on January 25 at 6 p.m., ORAMA a solo exhibition by Lucia Bubilda Nanni curated by Barbara Pavan, which can be visited until February 25, 2024.

The term ORAMA refers in italian to both sight and projection and suggests that to see consciously it is necessary to also explore the back side of things, the shadow. It is this "double" that reveals the mutability, the impermanence and the true nature of each visible manifestation, the plurality of reality that a superficial observation, a single point of view, cannot restore.

Lucia Bubilda Nanni gives substance to this reflection with an impressive installation of more than two hundred and fifty portraits in which the visitor is invited to enter to feel observed.

The one that opens at the Raccolta Lercaro is the last exhibition, in chronological order, of a project born from the artist's research that began in 2012 - and still continues - with the census of photographs of the faces of an unusable section of the Monumental Cemetery of Ravenna that she begins to draw freehand with her sewing machine - a heavy mechanical Bernina model 1008 with an electric pedal - to save them from oblivion. It is the beginning of a path that will lead her to reflections and suggestions that investigate the different declinations of the face and of the gaze through a plurality of disciplines: from philosophy to biology, passing through Lavater's eighteenth-century theory on physiognomy, the studies of neuroscientist Joseph LeDoux, to the recent hypotheses about LUCA.

The installation here, finally, is situated in direct dialogue with the visitors and with their possible readings and reactions and wants to be, mainly, emptiness and silence, to give time to an inversion of the gaze, the image and the double; an uncomfortable setback, a hold from which to escape or remain for a long time. Who is this contemporary subject who, protected by the screen of a smartphone or computer, spies on the world and on others’ lives, losing the awareness of being himself an object of observation and judgment?

Nanni introduces us to this dimension of being objects, letting everyone experience its perimeter, its border, the reactions, thoughts and emotional meaning it inspires.

This first event of 2024 continues the journey with essentially monthly events that aim to open new views and perspectives on art thanks to the collaboration of galleries, artists and curators.

The exhibition will be open to visitors with free admission from January 25 to February 25, 2024 at the following times: Tuesday and Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10.00-13.00 / 15.00-19.00.
