Fifty textile and quilt works of art from fifteen nations: from more than 150 entries, an international jury selected works that impressively demonstrate that creativity, artistic inspiration and statements critical of the times are not just reserved for painting, sculpture, graphics and photographic art.

Politically motivated works reflect topics such as "Black Lives Matter" or the situation of women in Afghanistan. Naturally, the global pandemic and its complex consequences for both individuals and society also take up a large part of the artists' work. Other works emphasize the aesthetic element and are dedicated to design issues, playing with colour, form and materials.

The «8. European Quilt Triennial" illustrates the variety and the artistic demands of contemporary art quilting. Edith Bieri-Hanselmann, Elsbeth Egger, Nesa Gschwend, Heidi König, Beatrice Lanter, Rita Merten and Michèle Samter are seven Swiss artists who represent the country's active quilt scene. The Doris Winter Memorial Prize, which honors innovation in the areas of material, technology and design, went to Switzerland again this year: It was awarded in equal parts to Heidi König and Rita Merten.

The «8. European Quilt Triennial" is organized by the Textile Collection Max Berk Heidelberg and can be seen as part of an exhibition tour from October 7, 2022 to Easter Monday, April 10, 2023 in the Textile Museum St.Gallen. A catalog of the same name was published for the exhibition and is available in the Textile Museum shop.
