Passementerie is an almost forgotten ingenious craft encompassing decorative trims like tassels, cords, and galloons, crafted manually or mechanically. Veerle Tytgat trained at one of Belgium’s last passementerie factories and still works there as a designer. In this talk, she’ll explain how this craft combines diverse textile techniques and how it inspired the research group Soft Connection Lab.

Veerle Tytgat is a freelance textile designer. She collaborates on bespoke textile projects for interior spaces. Her creative process spans industrial knitting to experiments with (natural) dyes.
She is part of the research group Soft Connection Lab at KASK School of Arts, Ghent (BE).
