HOSPITIUM - The Lampedusa Project
Lampedusa is an island caught between the local population, migrants and tourists. Its centuries-long history of cultural exchange characterises the island's identity and its role as a port of call on migration routes. Boukal's project builds on earlier works in Melilla or on Samos and locates Lampedusa in the wider context of fortified borders and human resilience in the Mediterranean. Using textile craft techniques, she creates works that create visibility, respect and attention and continue her history as a medium of protest and resistance.
