‘‘The Resilient Thread’’: Reimagining Traditional Passementerie as a Contemporary Art Form
Katerina Nakou’s work The Resilient Thread, awarded the Art Prize 2024 of G. & A. Mamidakis Foundation (Greece), reintroduces the overlooked craft of passementerie through large-scale, handwoven compositions. Inspired by textile samples from the historical archive of Textile Center Haslach, her works reinterpret this ornamental tradition with meticulous craftsmanship as both an artistic form and a narrative medium, reflecting on care, resilience, and the often-unseen, peripheral forces that shape our world. In this presentation, Katerina will share insights into her creative process.
